November 15, 2019 – The Altria Theater is excited to announce the launch of the GalaPro app, a first-of-its-kind mobile accessibility app which allows patrons to use closed captioning in real time during live performances. Patrons who enjoy the ease of captioning will be able to access it on demand through their phone with this innovative app made specifically for theatergoers. Additionally, patrons who currently use the assistive listening system will now be able to augment their experience with GalaPro captions. GalaPro is available for all Broadway In Richmond productions, including this month’s three-week engagement of HAMILTON.

 

The flexible GalaPro app is expertly designed to accommodate everyone and will not disrupt those around GalaPro users. Patrons can use the settings on their smartphone or tablet to customize font size and color or to adjust brightness. The app uses a black screen with red or gray font that is only visible to the individual looking at the screen. Airplane mode is always on, so there will be no messages, phone calls or other distractions.

 

Currently used in many Broadway theaters, GalaPro will enhance the theater experience for all Altria Theater patrons so that no matter which performance they attend or where they are seated, they can understand and enjoy the show.

 

GalaPro can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play.

 

For patrons that do not have a smartphone, Altria Theater is making devices available for patrons to check out and use at no cost. Those devices are available at the Concierge Desk in the box office lobby.
