Note: 1927 Cafe & Bakery will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 18 for a private event.

The 1927 Café & Bakery inside the lobby of the Altria Theater serves breakfast, lunch and theater bistro fare and features teas and coffee from Greenberry’s Coffee Co., a Charlottesville-based company. 1927 Café & Bakery operates in a dual capacity; serving as a café open to the public and as an additional food and beverage option for patrons attending events at Altria Theater.

“We are very excited to bring additional energy and vibrancy to the corner of Laurel and Main streets. Not only will we be serving our patrons but also VCU students, neighbors and the community. Our café and bakery will offer the freshest coffees, breads and pastries and will be the perfect place to pick up a delicious bite to eat on the way to class, work or a show,” states Dolly Vogt, General Manager of SMG Richmond, the management company that operates Altria Theater.

The menu is a collaboration of Greenberry’s Coffee Co. and 1927’s Executive Chef Carlos Silva. The café is open weekdays with hours of 7 am to 3 pm. During events at Altria Theater, 1927 Café & Bakery will reopen one hour before performances for those in attendance. In addition to a traditional menu, beer and wine will also be served during evening and weekend show hours to theater patrons only.

Greenberry’s Coffee Co. hand roasts its coffee to ensure integrity and quality. The Master Coffee Roasters view roasting as an art, not a job, and the difference is evident in every cup. Over 15 varieties of loose leaf tea will also be available. Breads, pastries and muffins will be baked daily and all foods will be prepared fresh on-site.

The name, 1927 Café & Bakery, pays homage to the history of the grand theater which has graced the corner and entertained millions of people since it opened as The Mosque Theater in October of 1927.

With the recent renovation and now the addition of 1927 Café & Bakery, Altria Theater continues its renaissance with our patrons and surrounding community at the forefront.
